Simply place the nightguard in before bedtime and you are ready to go. Some people need to adjust to the feel of the nightguard by wearing it a few hours at a time in the beginning. Some people who find they are clenching during the day, benefit from day time use also. A lower nightguard is easier to speak with and less visible for day time use.
