The "boil and bite" mouthguards are made of a thermo-plastic material which allows it to molded to the athlete's mouth during fitting. Each manufacture suggests different heating times. Generally the water is brought to a boil and the mouthguard is placed into the water for a short time and then removed , placed into the mouth and molded around the teeth while it mouthpiece cools and shrinks to fit.
